Each Saturday, led by Greg Griffin, a small team goes out to scout various areas of our own neighborhoods in Wilkes Barre for the worst of areas. They are searching for... garbage. Abandoned and blighted areas that people have taken advantage of by its residents. Areas that have been neglected by the city board. People dump their trash either out of carelessness, laziness, and/or in most cases a lack of ability to dispose of bigger items by proper means for whatever reason. The Blight Committee has done away with discarded beds, rotted bags of trash, broken toys, couches, furniture of all sorts. Greg Griffin and his team, sponsored by New Roots, Keystone Mission, and other community organizations, offer to assist in the removal of such eye sores. It has been said by various sources that when debris, litter, and graffiti exist, there is also a higher risk of crime when compared with places where they are not present. When people witness small problems, like litter or broken windows, they can perceive that it’s okay to bend or break the rules; other people are obviously doing it, and nothing is being done about it... What happened to the PRIDE in our city? What happened to the group effort of our BEEHIVE?!
